2. Early Age


Laxmikant –

Born on the day of Deepawali in 1937, Laxmikant lived a poor life in the East Vile Parle slum area of Mumbai. He lost his father at very young age and had to do some jobs to bear his home expenses. One of his father’s friend advised him and his elder brother to learn some musical instruments. Laxmikant was keen in learning and became expert in playing mandolin and his elder brother learned tabla.

Later Laxmikant played mandolin for almost 2 years with Hussain Ali who was one of the renowned mandolin players of that era. As well as, he took some mandolin classes from Bal Mukund Indorker and violin classes from Husnalal. At starting days of his career, he acted in some movies as a child artist as well as in some Gujarati movies.

Pyarelal –

Pyarelal was born to a well-known trumpeter Pt. Ramprasad Sharma and learned basics from him since his childhood. Later he got chance to learn violin from Anthony Gonsalves who was a famous musician from Goa. A famous song from the movie Amar Akbar Anthony which is “My name is Anthony Gonsalves” is a tribute to his teacher from him.

Pyarelal also faced shortage of money when he was younger so he played violin in many studios to earn money and his brother Gorakh Sharma used to play Guitar.
